Meter Change Out
Meter Changes Outs
We have been reporting over the last year that Columbus Electric Cooperative (CEC) will be installing new, automated meters to increase the efficiency and reliability of our electric system. Improving the efficiency of both operations and electricity delivery can help provide rate stability for our members. We began installing a handful of test meters at various locations in late June. We have been monitoring the meters over the last few months to ensure the accuracy of the information that we are receiving. We are now ready to begin rolling out meters to the rest of our members. We will change out meters in phases and anticipate to have the entire system completed by the end of 2020 or early 2021. Members will be notified by letter and through our newsletter as we move into the different areas of our service territory. We will also keep this page updated so be sure to check back periodically.
Columbus Electric personnel will continue installing new meters at member locations served out of our Camp Cody substation during the month of November. Crews are finishing up installations at locations north of the headquarters office and will begin installing the new meters at member locations west of the headquarters office as well as portions of Dona Ana and McCan roads. Letters and a map of the area where crews will be working were mailed out to the affected members. A map with the highlighted area can be found here.
CEC personnel will be in vehicles clearly marked with the Columbus Electric logo. They will also wear a company uniform with our logo and their name so they can be clearly identified. On the day that our service personnel visit your home to exchange your meter they will leave a door hanger so that you know that they were there and whether they were able to successfully complete the exchange or if they need to schedule a time to come back. On the day that your meter is exchanged there will be a brief interruption of power so it may be necessary to reset clocks and other electrical devices. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience.
